Pickering's Pastures, Widnes 29.9.13

Lovely late September day for my first visit to Pickering's Pastures.

Not a very good day for close-up bird photography
as the birds were a long way away but couldn't resist
a shot of the white chested cormorant which I
think must be a juvenile.

Beginnings

Although I have always enjoyed watching garden birds, until quite recently I hadn't picked up a pair of binoculars and 'gone bird watching'.   My bird watching doesn't involve a hail, rain or snow approach but is a more gentle pass time.  I have found that I can enjoy watching birds in relative comfort from hides on nature reserves and from the car parked in a suitable 'bird watching' spot, and although it's always good to see a 'new to me' bird I really don't mind if they are considered rare or not I just enjoy 'watching birds' ........
