Moore Nature Reserve 7.11.13

Much better day weather wise today so called in at Moore.  Not a great deal to see but was pleased to photograph a female pheasant before she dashed away.

Burton 6.11.13

Went to Burton RSPB this morning hoping to avoid the rain...no chance, but was rewarded with a good view of Whooper Swans with cygnets and a Bewick's swan, which I believe was the first to arrive this season, made a brief appearance.  Photographs of the Whooper swans below but unfortunately none of the Bewick's.

Burton - 14.10.13

Not a  good day for photography today - very wet, but managed to get a few shots of shovelers.

Sunday 6 October 2013

Moore - 6.10.13

Much too nice a day to stay in and so we went to Moore.

Tufted duck
Male tufted duck

There were a lot of little grebe

They were remarkably successful at catching fish

Coot

Lesser black backed gull with her young.

Perhaps not very exciting in 'bird watching' terms but a lovely afternoon just watching every day birds going about their business.

Pickering's Pastures, Widnes 29.9.13

Lovely late September day for my first visit to Pickering's Pastures.

Not a very good day for close-up bird photography
as the birds were a long way away but couldn't resist
a shot of the white chested cormorant which I
think must be a juvenile.

RSPB Burton - 20.9.13

Sheep grazing at Burton.

Beginnings

Although I have always enjoyed watching garden birds, until quite recently I hadn't picked up a pair of binoculars and 'gone bird watching'.   My bird watching doesn't involve a hail, rain or snow approach but is a more gentle pass time.  I have found that I can enjoy watching birds in relative comfort from hides on nature reserves and from the car parked in a suitable 'bird watching' spot, and although it's always good to see a 'new to me' bird I really don't mind if they are considered rare or not I just enjoy 'watching birds' ........
